Euroluce 2019 Recap

If you live for design, then you’ve probably been waiting for Salone del Mobile since the day it ended last year. It’s easily the most exciting week in the design calendar, due to it’s vast range of new product launches, jaw-dropping installations and the worlds most renowned designers, all in one place.

One of the most anticipated events of the Salone del Mobile 2019 is Euroluce, which takes place every 2 years and is recognised as the global benchmark lighting exhibition. Euroluce is where technological innovation and design culture come to shine – encompassing a space of 40,000 square metres and 485 of the best exhibitors showcasing their latest collections. This year we were lucky enough to experience the magic of these lights in the flesh, see some of our favourite displays below!

Graypants:

This year, Graypants released a range of exciting new products that we are super excited about!
First, we have 2x new additions to the amazing Chrona Family – the Table10 & Sonce10. Mimicking the phosphorescent envelope found around stars, these statement design pieces create a luminous glow by combining spun brass or steel and diffused acrylic. These new Chrona designs are just that little bit more versatile, you can attach your Chrona Sconce directly to a wall or place the Chrona Table to your tabletop.

And just when we thought we couldn’t love Scraplights any more, the Dutch design duo have introduced ‘Pebbles’ a collection that takes forms from pebbles gathered at 3 beaches near Seattle. These Scraplights have been inspired by and designed from individual stones and each shade is inscribed with the beach name and coordinates of the original stone that inspired it. Pretty unique, don’t you think?!

Tooy:

Tooy has always been a favourite of ours and this year’s collection is no different, over 30 new fittings have been released across 2 design collections.

Gordon:
Design by: Corrado Dotti
A new formal and material interpretation of the conical diffuser is the main feature of GORDON lamps. A family that includes wall fittings, table lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers and ceiling lights. This collection has a strong character that is conferred by the shape of the brass casting – these practical and versatile luminaires are suitable to be used in all different environments from Commercial to Residential.

Osman:
Design by: Corrado Dotti

Osman is a family of lamps with a rational design, enriched by precious metallic details and double-wall cylindrical diffusers that give a fascinating and harmonious light diffusion. The particular orthogonal structure and the well-balanced proportions give these lamps a strong avantgarde sign while maintaining a formal, familiar and refined appearance.

Kundalini:

A world of light, gentle shapes and refined materials were presented by Kundalini at the exclusive setting of Euroluce. We were lucky enough to get the first look at amazing new products such as the Kushi Floor XL and new finishes in old favourites, such as the Nami Suspension lamp.

Kushi Floor XL: Think the original Kushi Floor Lamp, only bigger! ‘Kushi’ from the Japanese word ‘skewer’ is a tribute to light and food, the Floor XL has the same round shape as the original, an opal diffuser made of two layers of mouth blown glass and a slender metallic skewer available in Black, Brass or Copper.

Nami: From the Japanese word ‘wave’ is a metaphor of light; the glass wave refracts the light off multiple light sources that are mysteriously hidden inside. The glass and the light coexist in harmony and enhance each other beautifully! Originally only available in Brass, Kundalini have now released a stunning metallic-black colourway.

Kundalini lamps are not only a detail that enhances space, but they are also elements in a balance between functionality and decoration.

Overall, Euroluce displayed an impressive range of lighting for all functions. Strong trends of glass with metallic or black detailing was present this year with a comeback of pendant lighting! It was great to see jewellery-like designs, mimicking strings of beads with delicate details in many of the ranges. We especially enjoyed the reflections of past designers that were highlighted through stories from many of the brands creating lighting designs of the past with the modern advancements of today’s manufacturing processes. It was refreshing to see European design at its finest, celebrated and appreciated by all.
