Starlights, Cabinet Downlights or Mini LED’s?

When you think of a LED downlight?  Does the image below come to mind?

If so, fantastic.  This is the very popular, Edge 110 from Faze.
It measures approximately 110mm in diameter and utilises advanced LED engines to achieve unmatched illumination with a fraction of the energy of other brands and models.

But what if you were after something more discreet?  Something that wouldn’t fit in places where it is not possible for conventional light fittings to fit.

Enter starlights.

Otherwise known as Mini LED downlights or cabinet downlights, starlights are so small that they are perfect for joinery and furniture lighting, discrete architectural situations and confined spaces.
A typical downlight is typically ~100mm in diameter whereas a starlight (with a pre-connected driver) is only ~40mm wide.

The reduction in size does lead to a lower lumen output but the Faze Luna Starlight is still able to produce over 500 lumens which is an impressive amount of light for such a small profile.  The Luna can seamlessly showcase artwork, provide functional light over bathroom mirrors, or create a striking feature in bulkheads.

Starlights are typically used as accent lighting.  It is a form of directional lighting used to illuminate a specific area to help you carry out tasks in that space.  As we mentioned, one of the best uses we see is providing light above the mirror in the bathroom for better visibility.
Scroll through the images below to see some architectural yet practical uses of starlights.
