Lighting trends of 2022

By Radiant Lighting | 26 May 2022 | 0 Comments

Home decor and trends are constantly changing but fundamentally high quality lighting is always the priority.
Below we’ve listed some key lighting trends for 2022 to keep in mind when designing your home to be beautiful and functional.

Lighting as art

Lighting should never be relegated to just downlights.  Lighting is functional, ofcourse, however now is the perfect time to choose a light that also ‘functions’ as art.
Pendant lights are a great place to start when searching for that statement piece (we’ll get into that further below) but don’t be afraid of being a bit more creative.  Consider the Kundalini Vice Versa.  Part light, part nature - it has multiple options for a unique object.  A simple rotation and the suspended lamp suddenly makes space for plants.  Imagine creating a vibrant, vertical garden with your light fixtures.

Architectural Chandeliers

Chandeliers have had somewhat of a rollercoaster ride in popularity over the last few decades.  Whilst they are a classic piece, it’s 2022 and they have been given an architectural overhaul to be a modern gem in your home.
Consider the Novalux Ark, a luminous semi circle, capable of creating stunning light effects and can characterise a space much like a traditional chandelier would.

Metallic Table Lamps

Metallic table lamps are not new in 2022 but they are simply more popular than ever.  Tying in with our first point, lighting should function as art and table lamps offer the most perfect way to highlight unique pieces.  Table lamps shouldn’t be an afterthought, instead, find something you truly love that makes you think or smile each time you see the piece.  The Graypants Wick is a great example, it’s a call from our past and a modern take on the humble candle.

Human centric lighting

Human centric or biodynamic lighting is a concept by which light is adapted throughout the day to meet the requirements of a healthy circadian rhythm. To put it simply, it’s a balance between cool light vs warm light. The correct lighting is brighter, whiter light in the morning and during the day, while a warmer, softer light is used in the evening to help stimulate the hormones that allow for healthy sleep schedules.

It must be noted that true human centric lighting can only be achieved with specialist system and is beyond most residential applications, you can certainly mimic some of the effects with colour changing and connected bulbs.

Chip on Board (COB) strip lighting

Seamless strip lights. LED strip lighting has evolved significantly with the introduction of Chip on Board (COB) strip lighting.  COB technology has led to a dramatic increase in the density of LED emitters.  Previously, a high quality strip light would have ~120 emitters per metre. However, COB technology has quadrupled the density and our Faze Fusion COB products now offer up to 480 LED’s per metre to provide dot-free, seamless illumination.
